This is a beautifully restored castle keep in the middle of the countryside. It is elegant but not too formal.
The Castle is located at the center of County Tipperary, Ireland's largest inland County and only 6 miles from a thriving market town. This area is famous as the best farming land in Europe.
It is about 1-1/2 hours drive from Dublin and even less from Cork and Limerick.
When you stay here, you will be able to spend your time exploring the many historical sights such as Holy Cross Abbey or the world famous Rock of Cashel. There are many excellent golf courses within one hour's drive. The local Golf Club is a good 18 hole parkland course, only a few minutes away. The River Suir, which flows through County Tipperary, offers many hours of pleasure for visitors who enjoy angling. For horse lovers, Tipperary is a treasure trove, with many opportunities to enjoy a day at the races, hunting with the local hunt (in season) or visiting one of the world famous stud farms.
This area is also the birthplace of Ireland's National Sport, Hurling, and is perfect for guests who would like to spend time shopping or just enjoying a pint with the locals in one of its many pubs.
Other attractions within a short distance of the Castle include beautiful Kilkenny City and Castle, Cahir Castle, the Glen of Aherlow and Mitchelstown Caves.
Inside, the atmosphere of the drawing room is enhanced by a wonderful white marble Adam-style fireplace. Our guests really appreciate the scent of open turf fires, a true Irish delicacy! While relaxing in this room, visitors can survey the famous Tipperary rural landscape through the double-height Elizabethan windows.
Accommodation information: 9 Bedrooms; 8 Bathrooms
Bedroom Suites: The bedroom suites are decorated and furnished to ensure that our guests can enjoy the splendour of former years without compromising on the comforts of today. The Castle currently has 8 ensuite double bedrooms. The Master Suite has a wonderful four-poster bed.
Dining Room: For that formal dinner, with a very special touch of splendour, the Regency dining room table seats fourteen guests in comfort. The ceiling in this room is decorated with Celtic Murals, depicting scenes from Ancient Ireland. The room has a marvellous open white marble fireplace, to add to the warmth of the atmosphere. Arrangements can be made to provide a top-class chef and catering team.
Library: When our guests wish to be less formal, they usually decide to unwind in the Library. It is no coincidence that the Library is conveniently located right beside the cellar! A broad range of reading material is always available, with a special emphasis on Irish history and country living.
